Some Modifications of the Picric Acid Method for Sugars
نویسندگان
چکیده
The writers recently had occasion to use the picric acid colorimetric method (commonly called the Benedict-Lewis method) 2 for determining the sugars in cornstalk juices. Although it has been used mostly as a micro method for blood and urine analyses, it has been used to some extent as a macro method. {3* 5, 12.) It proved to be more rapid than, and approximately as accurate as a, copper reduction method after certain modifications had been introduced to eliminate certain sources of error. The following is a description of the errors met with and the corresponding modifications.

Dinitrosalicylic Acid: a Reagent for the Estimation of Sugar in Normal and Diabetic Urine
The methods used for the quantitative determination of sugar in urine, including the polariscope, ‘give good results when the amount of sugar present is considerable, but there is always a point where the urine contains so little sugar that the results are dubious. Special met)hods have been published for the determination of sugar in normal urine. Many of these give results that are too high, ...

متن کاملA Method for the Determination of Sugar in Normal Urine
In a previous paper’ we described a procedure for t,he determination of sugar in normal urines based upon preliminary removal of the nitrogenous urinary constituents by means of mercury nitrate in the presence of sodium bicarbonate. The sugar was then determined in t,he filtrate by the use of picric acid and alkali under definite conditions. This method has been of considerable service. Frequen...
متن کاملThe Role of Different Sugars, Amino Acids and Few Other Substances in Chemotaxis Directed Motility of Helicobacter Pylori
Objective(s) Motility plays a major role in pathogenicity of Helicobacter pylori, yet there is scarce data regarding its chemotactic behaviour. The present study was designed to investigate the chemotactic responses of local isolates of H. pylori towards various sugars, amino acids, as well as some other chemical substances. Materials and Methods Chemotaxis was assayed by a modified Adler’s...

P. Bose, Diabetes Research Worker, Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, who remarks that the method has undergone several modifications in Mie hands of Lewis, Benedict, Meyers, Baily and others, but has never yet obtained universal acceptance. The main objection to this method is that the picric acid reagent employed in fhe test reacts with the creatinin of the blood, and this tends to make th...
